CBD continues to rise in popularity as more people are becoming aware of its many health benefits. When shopping for CBD you will notice the terms Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum and CBD isolate. These terms refer to the type of CBD extract used to make the product. The major difference between these 3 are the amount of cannabinoids present – cannabinoids are classified as naturally occurring compounds found in hemp, this includes CBD, THC, CBG and more.
What is Full Spectrum CBD?
Full spectrum CBD oil derived from hemp is a whole plant extract that contains the naturally occurring cannabinoids found in hemp, including small amounts of THC (less than 0.3%).
There are over 100 different cannabinoids in hemp and the most abundant is CBD. The other cannabinoids are present in smaller amounts but studies are showing that they contain their own health benefits. These compounds are CBN, CBG, CBC and more. While the benefits of these compounds are still being discovered, research has also shown that when cannabinoids are kept together they produce the "entourage effect" - this means that these compounds work synergistically to enhance each other's benefits. The benefits of these cannabinoids include anti-inflammatory, antiviral and neuro-protective properties, to name a few.
Will Full Spectrum CBD get me high?
Full Spectrum CBD derived from hemp will contain a THC level of 0.3% or less, which is nowhere near the amount needed to feel the psychoactive effects of THC.
What is Broad Spectrum CBD?
Broad Spectrum CBD is a whole plant extract that contains the minor but beneficial compounds found in hemp, except it is THC-free.
What is CBD Isolate?
CBD isolate is a crystalline solid or powder extract that is 99.9% CBD and THC-free.
Is one better than the other?
Studies have shown that when CBD extracts contain other cannabinoids, such as CBN, CBG & CBC, can provide a wider range of therapeutic effects. The biggest advantage of using full spectrum CBD & broad spectrum CBD products is the “entourage effect”. As stated above, this effect is when the compounds in the oil work together to enhance each other's benefits. Whereas, CBD isolate may provide a smaller window of therapeutic effect but it is important to keep in mind that CBD products affect everyone differently and it may require trial and error to find the product suited for your needs.
